[PREMIERE] Hanya – Radio

Hanya are the Brighton duo of Heather Sheret and Jack Watkins, who previously operated under the name Post-Heather. The pair played a storming set for us earlier this year at The Victoria, and next month are set to release their anticipated debut EP, I Used To Love You, Now I Don’t, on Leisure Records. Ahead of that release, today we’re premiering their new single, Radio.

As Heather explains, Radio is a track about where we turn when times get dark, “’Radio’ was written at a time of big stomach churning foreboding for me. It reflects thinking that something external can help at a time like that, like moving somewhere new, meeting someone, stupid vices, anything that we reach out for to give us some feeling that shitty times can be fixed.”

Musically, it’s a more brooding and downbeat feel that some of Hanya’s previous material, with a touch of Howling Bells or early PJ Harvey evident. Dense, echoing guitar lines and steady drum beats create a fog of sound, cut through by Heather’s soaring, pained vocals. It’s a fascinating introduction to the band’s new record, one that already feels like a giant leap forward. Celebrating the upcoming EP release the band are also heading out on a short tour of Southern UK cities starting with the letter B, which is either a very strange marketing gimmick or a complete coincidence.

I Used To Love You, Now I Don’t is out November 23rd via Leisure Records. Click HERE for more information on Hanya.
