Glasgow-based songwriter Peter Johnstone is shaping up to release his debut EP this Wednesday, and today we’re sharing the latest video from it, Boghall Sky. The EP, Teleshopping, was recorded with production from Life Model’s Chris Smith and features regular collaborators Luiza Lucuta and Cameron McDougall

Lifting its name from the somewhat infamous Boghall Estate in West Lothian, like much of his upcoming EP, Boghall Sky reflects on Peter’s move to Glasgow. Led by a prominent acoustic guitar, the track builds so slowly you hardly notice how rich and full the instrumentation has become by the songs finale.
At the forefront throughout is Peter’s cracked, emotive vocal, as he sings of all things Glasgow, from Tennants being the best thing you’ve ever drunk, through to unratified comparisons to Portland, and the quiet romance of finding, “something different in a Boghall Sky” while questioning, “will it be the same in the morning when we say goodbye.” Like many of the great Scottish writers, there’s a wry wit to Peter’s pronouncements on love and longing, a national trait for self-deprecation, humour and spotting the romance in the seemingly least romantic of settings. File alongside Teenage Fanclub, Ballboy, The Just Joans, and more than anything just enjoy the first fertile flutterings of a bright new talent.
Teleshopping is out June 6th with a launch show at The Hug & Pint that same night. Click HERE for more information on Peter Johnstone.
