Get To Know – Kitty Kat Fan Club

We Say…

Hailing from San Jose, Kitty Kat Fan Club are something of a twee-pop supergroup, consisting of members of the likes of Just Friends, Hard Girls and Skankin’ Pickle. The collective were formed by Mike Park, with the simple aims of getting together, hanging out, making music and having fun. The band’s sound comes from a shared love of the jangling indie-pop of acts like Alvvays, Belle & Sebastian and The Pastels. This week will see the band release their debut album, Dreamy Little You.

Dreamy Little You explodes into life with the exuberant title track; a melding of buzzing keys, euphoric horns and those wistful happy-sad harmonies that permeate so much of the best indie-pop, it’s two minutes of pure pop perfection! Elsewhere, Beth and Me adds a certain Lemonheads-slackness, I Never Trained For A Marathon Before brings a shimmering country-quality and Happy Now, Loving You is a bouncy, rambunctious piece of pop-punk, that Diet Cig would be proud of. Reinventing the wheel they may not be, but when the wheel sounds this delightful why would you want to? Consider us paid up members of the Kitty Kat Fan Club Fan Club!

FTR: For those who don’t know who are Kitty Kat Fan Club?

We are a collective of friends from San Jose, California. We started this band as a way to get together weekly to play music and just hang out. Everyone plays in different projects and such, so we treat this band as a low stress fun experience with no expectations other than to have fun.

FTR: What can you remember about your first show?

It was the first time my dad saw me play music. It was for the Asian Man Records 20 year anniversary. We did a short set of only 5 songs, but there were tons of people and then the added stress of my dad being there made me extremely nervous.

FTR: Why do you make music? Why not another art form?

It’s something I love. It’s something I enjoy. There are other art forms that I also enjoy such as painting, but music is something that really makes my heart swoon. Whether it be by performing or just going to see another band live.

FTR: What can people expect from the Kitty Kat Fan Club live show?

You can most definitely expect smiles. Tons of energy, dancing, and a group of individuals having the best time ever.

FTR: What’s next for Kitty Kat Fan Club?

We have a west coast US tour the beginning of August and then some east coast US shows in September. The band doesn’t tour full time, but hopefully we’d like to make our way to every city and country.
