Wind back to the heady days of the summer of 2019, there was a heatwave that was melting train tracks across the UK, we still thought Brexit might not happen, and Boris Johnson was only just taking over a shaky minority government. Indietracks was just around the corner and a genuinely wonderful band called Strawberry Generation from Providence, Rhode Island were touring, winning the hearts and minds of the Indie-Pop universe. We’re not saying it’s definitely related, we’re just saying things did seem to get worse the second they left! Worry not though, our favourite fruity Summer fling are back today with a brand new single, Hannah, the first track to be lifted from their upcoming debut album, Afloat, out next month on Sunday Records.
Hannah is the sound of Strawberry Generation at their effervescent best, combining breezy vocal-melodies with the driving slap of a snare drum and flickering licks of rapid-fire guitar. The whole thing seems to fizz and shimmy in equal measure, combining an easy groove with a delightfully driving pace.
Afloat already feels like a giant leap forward for the band, and their brand of heart-breaking pop perfection. For those feeling like they’re missing a vital piece of themselves since the departure of the likes of Allo Darlin’ or The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, might just have found the perfect repair kit.
Afloat is out February 14th via Sunday Records. Click HERE for more information on Strawberry Generation.
