Today we’re delighted to share with you Berlin, the brand new single from Stanley Brinks and The Wave Pictures. Berlin is taken from their upcoming album My Ass, which is the follow up to last years album Gin.
Neither Stanley Brinks nor The Wave Pictures require much introduction round these parts: indeed we declared their previous collaboration Gin one of our twenty best records of 2014. We weren’t the only ones who enjoyed the collaboration; Stanley enjoyed it so much that the day after they finished the promotional tour he dragged The Wave Pictures out of bed and into the studio, to begin work on the follow up. Three days later, twelve tracks they describe as, “loose and jazzy” were recorded, and My Ass was born.
While the album isn’t going see the light of day until the start of October, to build anticipation to fever pitch, today they’ve shared with us the album’s second single Berlin. Berlin is a woozy anthemic ode to Stanley’s current city of choice, as he puts it, Berlin is about, “both the freedom and the ensuing pressures of his beloved adoptive hometown”. Musically, The Wave Pictures provide a gentle swoon of a backing, and they’re all joined by the vocal talents of Freschard for a chorus that is screaming out for numerous hazy, gently drunken sing-alongs on their upcoming tour dates. If Berlin is a sign of the album to come then mark My Ass down as one of our most anticipated albums of the year.
Berlin will be available on 7″ and download via Fika Recordings on September 11th.
My Ass is released via Fika Recordings on October 2nd. Stanley Brinks and The Wave Pictures head out on tour at the start of October.
