Who says you need to choose between an education and a career in music? When not wowing with her own solo productions, Alexandra Angele is a student of Contemporary American Music and Media, Writing and Production at Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. The New Jersey native, who has been writing music for the best part of six years, is set to release her debut EP, Willow Park, next month, and today we’re premiering the latest track from it, Slowly.

While Alexandra cites the likes of Joni Mitchell and Passenger as major influences, it’s her infusion of contemporary indie-pop with notes of folk, Americana and jazz that makes it jump out. This is particularly true of Slowly, a lilting piano ballad in the mould of Regina Spektor or Fiona Apple; it’s lifted to another level by the addition of distant jazzy trumpets and clattering electronic beats.
With a voice capable of subtle intriguing inflexions and moments of raw, bruising power, Alexandra is a fascinating prospect; a songwriter with limitless potential and the knowledge of how to write a perfect pop song. This could be the beginning of a very bright future.
Willow Park is out July 4th. Click HERE for more information on Alexandra Angele.
