Next Friday see’s the first of our co-promoted shows with Scared To Dance, with Lyys headlining supported by today’s featured artist, Yukka. Yukka is the musical moniker of London-based electronic-musician Jacob Mayfield, formerly of alt-pop duo, Victoria & Jacob. Yukka is set to release a new EP, North Circular, and ahead of that release is today premiering his new single, Cities.

Cities is a track Jacob has described as, “a deep and atmospheric meditation on metropolitan living”. His vision of living in the UK’s capital city is delivered as a world of late night journeys, slowly being swept up by the unstoppable passing of time into hazy, misty morning.

Musically, Yukka’s is a place of hushed vocal samples, glitchy drums, organic percussive beats and ambient synths. Inspired by the likes of Broadcast and Ulrich Schnauss, this textural take on the genre seems to infuse these cold electronics tones with a sense of wistful melancholy and the most distinctly human of emotions. If like us you can’t wait to hear more, well you’ll just have to come to The Victoria in Dalston next week.
